For kids that want to try youth combat, the best starting point is to show up at an event and talk to a marshal. They’ll let you watch, answer your questions, explain what gear you need, and often have loaner armor on hand so kids can get suited up and try it out for themselves.
A good “getting started” article is available on the East Kingdom Gazette site.
The East Kingdom Youth Combat web site explains the rules of the game, lists the armor you’ll need and how to construct your own weapons.
I’ve also posted a few pages here covering possible choices for armor for Division I (age 6-9) and armor for Divisions II/III (age 10-17).
To find local youth combat events, contact the youth marshals in your area, or scan the East Kingdom calendar for events that will include youth combat.
If you’re in the New York City metro area, or if you’re having trouble finding your local marshals, drop me a line and we’ll get you started.
If you live outside of the East Kingdom (the northeastern US and Canada) things will be much the same, but the rules may be slightly different, and you’ll have to look elsewhere to find your local marshals and events.
